Patrick and Mary Evans were born in Ireland and settled in Scotland sometime before 1860, which is where their first three children were born: Margaret in 1861; Catherine in 1863 and James in 1865. Their son William John was born at Harrington, Cumberland in 1870.
By the time of the 1881 Census the family were living at 57 Collins Terrace, Dearham, Cumberland with Patrick employed as a Labourer in the Iron Works, daughter Margaret as a Coalpicker and James as a labourer in the Brickworks. Catherine appeared to be unemployed 'at Home' and William John was at school.
Ten years later and still living at 57 Collins Terrace, Mary is a widow and living with her two sons, James and William, plus a tramp, Peter Farley. Living in the same house is her daughter Margaret and her husband Frederick Searle, with their five children.

Margaret Ann Evans 1861-
Margaret was born in Scotland in 1861 and married Frederick Searle of Maryport at Cockermouth, Cumberland in 1885.
In 1901 they were living at 15 Denes Terrace, Benwell, Newcastle upon-Tyne, with their eight children. The first five were born at Maryport: Mary Elizabeth in 1880; Margaret Ellen 1885; Giles 1888; Annie 1890 and Dick in 1890.
The three youngest were all born in Co. Durham: Sarah 1892; Winnie 1894 and Frederick in 1900.
Catherine Evans 1863-
Catherine was born in Scotland in 1863. In the 1881 Census Catherine is described as 'Married' and 'at home' but still has the name 'Evans.' Also living with the family is Patrick's grand daughter Mary Elizabeth Evans which might suggest that she is the daughter of Catherine! However in the 1891 Census Mary Elizabeth is described as the daughter of Frederick and Margaret Searle (above) so something of a mystery! There is of course the possibility of an error in the LDS transcript.
I have not so far located Catherine in the 1891 or 1901 Census.
James Evans 1865-
James was born in Scotland in 1865 and in 1881 was employed as a Labourer in the Brickworks. I have not so far been able to locate him in the 1901 Census.
William John Evans 1870-
William was born at Harrington in Cumberland in 1870 but no more information has been gained at the present.
